Freemium
Freemium is a pricing model that offers a permanently free tier with core functionality, while charging for advanced features, higher usage limits, or team capabilities. It differs from a free trial, which grants full access for a limited time only.
Why it matters for developers
Freemium can drive massive top-of-funnel adoption, but it only works if the free tier is useful enough to attract users yet limited enough to create upgrade pressure. Getting that boundary right is the core design decision.
